  • This face was shown as wood type by J.E. Hamilton and William Baker in their 1886 Specimens of Holly Wood Type.
  • French Clarendon Condensed was not shown in either American Wood Type or the folio.

This is most like the Hamilton cut.

Hamilton and Tubbs were the only manufacturers to cut French Clarendon Condensed that was this heavy or expanded, all other manufacturers of “French Clarendon Condensed” produced designs that were much lighter and much more condensed than the cut shown here.
